Creative Learning Dance Project, 2024

Witness the Joy at our public presentations! You’ll be inspired!

Final Choreography Videos

Woyaye translates to “we are going.” It’s an inspirational song that reminds us that though life may be full of struggles and hardships, “heaven knows where we are going … we will get there.” Witness the joy of our young adults with special needs and our older adults as they move in creative ways through choreography inspired by them that demonstrate the struggles and joy of the human experience. Not to be missed!

Pirouette means to turn. Witness the joy in our students as they create their own individual ways of turning. Prepare to be inspired!

About this project: Engaging Individuals with Special Needs and Disabilities through Contemporary Dance is an 11-class series of movement arts classes. Adapting ballet, modern, jazz, and Broadway dance language with yoga and gymnastics principles, we work together in nurturing and expanding upon students' capabilities -- while providing joy and human connection through the arts and public performance! These videos show the creative learning and teaching techniques we discovered together along the way in our journey these past 3 months, as well as the choreographed dance pieces that the teaching artists and students co-created.

The major funders of this project are the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Creative Learning Grant program, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Additional general support was provided by the Marta Heflin Foundation, and by our community of donors.
